Neon Abyss 2 best builds and how the weapon system works
How Neon Abyss 2 builds actually work: weapon affixes and rarity, tempering, badges, set items, artifact extraction and the directions worth forcing.
In 1.0 a build is a weapon plus an affix stack, not a stat sheet. Chase rarity, temper the affixes you want, and anchor the run around one repeatable trigger — wisps, Hatchmons, jump marks or key counts — then let set items multiply it.
What a "build" means in 1.0
Neon Abyss 2 no longer grades weapons by a fixed stat line. Since the Weapon Reforge update, every weapon you pick up rolls with static affixes (always on that weapon) and dynamic affixes (random damage, speed, resource and mechanical bonuses) — and affix potency and variety scale with weapon level.
The build question is not "which gun is best" — it is what your weapon is doing this run, and what you stack around it.
Rarity, tempering and the upgrade decision
- Rarity tiers: weapons and affixes come in Common, Rare, Epic and Legendary. Higher rarity affixes are significantly stronger — a legendary-rolled familiar weapon can beat an epic-rolled rare one.
- Upgrade screens offer two direct stat choices, or you can Temper the weapon to bolt on an additional affix instead.
- Weapon level raises the ceiling: it improves the chance and potency of dynamic affixes. Level first, then chase rarity while it climbs.
Feeding the weapon: souls and the rooms that matter
- Unused weapons break down into Soul Shards, which level your current weapon. Souls now drop in clean, set amounts from the Weapon XP Hexjar.
- Meditation rooms were reworked to scale with weapon level — a successful meditation grants roughly half the souls for your next weapon upgrade.
- Artisan Jar (Hexjar) instantly fills your current weapon's EXP. Find one early and it is a free power spike.
- The Artisanism Faith was reworked in 1.0: it now uses badges to grant a new weapon affix when you craft. If you like crafting a god-tier gun mid-run, this is your lane.
Sets: the multipliers you build around
Completed sets change how the run plays, not just how hard you hit. These are the 1.0 states of the big ones:
| Set | What it does now |
|---|---|
| Sky Heist | Replaces the paid hack minigame with a permanent rainbow key: nearby targets get hacked automatically, keys extend your reach, attack speed raises the hack rate |
| Alloy Resolve | Keeps its explosion immunity and free grenades, and grenade blast range is now 1.5× — a genuinely safe demolition build |
| Lovely Legion | Hatchmon eggs convert into shields, with clearer visuals showing what is being converted and what you gain |
| Carnival Frenzy | Jump Marks now generate and trigger continuously, and every third mark is replaced by a turret cloud firing homing projectiles — a new jump-focused damage lane |
| Tao Unfolds | Spawns 10 Purple Wisps every battle, with wisp respawn at a fraction of the old time and doubled charge speed |
| Arcane Echo | Halves Curio Crystal costs (minimum 1) and banks up to 6 Crystal Daggers that fire on their own in combat |
The Royal Ring artifact reduces a set's required item count by 2 — the cheapest way to complete a set you are one or two pieces away from.
Build lanes worth forcing
These lanes are anchored by systems the game itself keeps feeding you:
- Wisp / summon lane — Tao Unfolds plus wisp items like ASCEND and PURGE; Xuan's kit leans here, and wisp effects keep getting stronger in recent patches.
- Hatchmon lane — Lovely Legion turns eggs into shields, WILDSHIFT scales weapon damage with your egg count, and the Training Whistle hands you five Wild Hatchmons. See the Hatchmon guide.
- Key lane — Sky Heist and Cassie's lucky bullets scale with your key pile; SUNDER is the key-themed weapon to look for.
- Jump / mark lane — Carnival Frenzy's turret clouds and jump-scaling artifacts (Legendary Jersey, Aura Harp) reward builds that never stop hopping.
- Faith lane — Purity Sigil grows your damage with Faith and adds a projectile at full meter; the Candle Jar fills the meter directly.
The six stats and Artifact Extraction
Stats are split into six categories: Damage Bonus, Attack Speed, Projectile Range, Projectile Size, Critical Chance and Luck. You can see all of them in the pause menu.
If a run gives you artifacts you do not want, the Artefact Extraction system destroys them for permanent bonuses in one or more of those stats — even a mediocre run compounds.
Before you call a run lost: are you tempering toward one trigger instead of spreading stats? Is your anchor set one Royal Ring from completion? Are you banking Crystals for a Curio instead of doors? Fix those three and most runs come back.
