Neon Abyss 2 Hatchmon and Super Pets guide
Neon Abyss 2 Hatchmons: how eggs hatch, companions level up, duplicates fuse into Super Pets, and the items that turn pets into a whole build.
Hatchmons hatch from eggs and fight, tank and shield for you. Collect two of the same and they fuse into a Super Pet with a stronger effect — so the pet build is simple: hoard eggs, fuse duplicates, and never let your own grenades near the flock.
What Hatchmons are
Hatchmons are the companion creatures that hatch from eggs you pick up in the Abyss. Each one hatches into a random type, fights alongside you, and brings its own kit: some shoot automatically, some body-check enemies, some shield you. They have their own health bars, level up as you clear rooms, and can be knocked out in combat — effects like the Shark Grenade can wake a whole unconscious flock back up.
Eggs are also a resource: builds and items read your egg count (WILDSHIFT turns eggs into weapon damage, RED WIDOW widens its reload window with more eggs), and Grandma's Basket keeps feeding you eggs off bombs if you are running low. Egg consumption prioritizes the eggs with less experience, so your veterans stay in the field.
Super Pets: how evolution works
When you hold two Hatchmons of the same type, they can fuse into a Super Pet — a stronger version that keeps the base skills and adds a unique effect. This is the single most important rule of a pet build: duplicates are gold.
Documented evolution lines include:
| Hatchmon | Base ability | Evolved |
|---|---|---|
| Adam | Auto-shoots | Double shot → triple shot with a big death blast |
| Alien Baby | Fires a seeking bullet | Fires two seekers |
| Fire Devil | Shoots fireballs | Two shots plus a fire explosion on death |
| Blue Brick | Blocks projectiles | Chance to duplicate on death |
| Cactus Baby | Contact damage | Fires penetrating bullets, AoE burst on final death |
| Angry Teapot | Faster fire rate | Keeps its death buff |
| Baby Blue Doctor | Drops shields on death | Evolves once |
Keeping the flock alive
Friendly fire is the number one pet killer. Your own grenades and explosions can hit Hatchmons — the developers added items specifically around this (Shark Grenade waking unconscious pets, shield effects spreading to the flock). Practical rules:
- Never throw explosives into rooms where your pets are brawling. Position matters more than DPS here.
- Aged Acorn: the 10 nearest eggs get barriers at the start of combat — eggs are fragile too.
- Items that heal or shield the flock (Lovely Legion converts eggs into shields) are worth taking even when you are not all-in on pets.
- If you find the Training Whistle, using it grants five Wild Hatchmons — instant army, free of charge.
Building around pets
The pet build is real and the game keeps adding to it:
- Hoard eggs early. The pet build wants volume first; every fight is a chance to spawn the duplicate you need.
- Fuse on sight. Once two of a type are together, the Super Pet is your win condition.
- Pick up egg-count items. WILDSHIFT's damage scales with your egg count, and the Lovely Legion set converts the whole mechanic into defense.
- Protect the investment. Explosion immunity shields (Alloy Resolve's set, barrier effects) also protect the flock in practice.
For where pets fit into the wider build picture, see Best Builds. And if you want the full late-game boss checklist next, the bosses guide shows where a strong pet army pays off — Dark Aphrodite's challenge literally counts your Hatchmons.
Quick answers
- How do I hatch an egg? Clear rooms with eggs in your line-up; the hatching trigger was retuned during Early Access patches and eggs show a hammer state when they are close.
- Does the pet I want ever show up? Types are random, so the strategy is volume, not rerolling for a specific pet.
- Do Super Pets stack with set bonuses? Yes — Lovely Legion and item effects treat Super Pets as Hatchmons, which is why the conversion build works at all.
